Radhika Menon started Tulika as an independent, multilingual children’s publishing house in 1996. Tulika’s picture books are published in nine languages – English, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati and Bengali. The list includes the entire range for 0 to 16 – from picture books to fiction and non-fiction for young people. The imaginatively created books have pioneered a new wave of children’s publishing in India. The books have won many awards over the years, both national and international. This year Tulika was nominated for the Best Asian Children’s Publisher at the Bologna Bookfair. Radhika believes that translating across different languages gives voice and image to cultural diversity in a way that publishing in one language does not. A hands-on publisher, she is deeply involved in the visualizing, editing, designing and marketing of Tulika books.
