Yuyi Morales, a captivating voice in the world of children’s literature, gifted us with an unforgettable afternoon. The renowned Mexican-American author shared her inspiring journey as a writer and illustrator, leaving an indelible mark on everyone present.
Since her arrival in the United States, Yuyi has faced the challenge of adapting to a new culture and language. However, it was through literature that she found a refuge and a way to connect with her roots. Her ability to transform her experiences into beautiful stories and vibrant illustrations is simply astonishing.
During her presentation, Yuyi invited us to explore our own creativity, to see the world through new eyes and to give free rein to our imagination. Like Frida Kahlo, one of her greatest inspirations, Yuyi teaches us that art is a powerful tool to express our feelings and connect with others.
The session with the Spanish students of Neev was especially enriching. Yuyi not only talked about her books but also fostered a deep dialogue about identity, culture, and the power of storytelling. The students’ questions about her experience as a Mexican living in the United States demonstrated the connection they made with the author.
