Ross was born in Cullercoats, a small seaside town in the north east of England. (It appears in his books as ‘Culvercot’). After university, he moved to London and became a journalist and then, after a few years, a television producer. He worked on many well-known, and more best-forgotten shows, including ITV’s This Morning with Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan; Channel 4’s Big Breakfast and the long-running Pet Rescue. He began writing for children in 2014, and his books have been shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards and the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, among others. His first book Time Travelling With A Hamster was nominated for 17 awards. He is a lifelong magic nerd and was admitted as a member of The Magic Circle, the world’s oldest club for magicians, in 2019. He lives in London with his wife, children, a border collie and several tropical fish.
