Kenny was born in Guwahati and spent his childhood in two other towns in Assam. After a few years working in the Mumbai film & TV industry, he made his first film, Local Kung Fu, on a budget of 1 lakh rupees. The Assamese action comedy became a cult classic and part of pop culture in Assam, and was followed by the sequel Local Kung Fu 2, which was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. Kenny has also acted in Hindi films Yaara, Mary Kom, Shanghai and Raag Desh. His debut novel, a musical romantic comedy called Chocolate Guitar Momos, was published by Westland.
