Gita Varadarajan is the acclaimed author of multiple Scholastic publications including Save Me a Seat, My Bindi and its upcoming companion book, My Saree. Gita is a sought-after guest author and speaker at schools across the country, where she inspires children to create stories in their own voices. A frequent panelist at children’s book ceremonies, Gita has more than two decades of teaching experience. She has taught in India and the U.A.E and currently teaches 4th Graders at Riverside Elementary School in Princeton NJ. Gita has a Masters in Literacy Instruction, from Teachers College, Columbia University, worked briefly at The Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, served as a Student Teacher Supervisor at Teachers College in the Literacy Specialist Program, and as an Adjunct Faculty Member at the School of Education at The College of New Jersey. She also works closely with schools in India where she spearheads reading and writing workshops. Gita believes that classrooms should be spaces where students can bring their authentic selves, for only then can they learn with freedom and joy.
