Chintan Girish Modi is an educator, writer, researcher and teacher trainer whose home base is Mumbai. His formal education took him to St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai, and the English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad. He has studied literature, sociology, anthropology, media, education and cultural studies. If degrees matter to you, he earned an M.Phil. in English Language Education, with a focus on writing pedagogy, and fellowships/scholarships in peacebuilding and conflict transformation with School for International Training, Initiatives of Change, and Kulturstudier. Chintan has designed and facilitated workshops and trainings with young people and educators to strengthen critical thinking on issues of communal violence, caste privilege, gender discrimination and queer issues. He has contributed to a guidebook for textbook writers that focuses on how to integrate peace, social justice, global citizenship and sustainable development into subject-specific learning materials. He has also worked with Shishuvan School on their democracy curriculum and mental health curriculum. He is the founder of Friendships Across Borders: Aao Dosti Karein, an India-Pakistan peace initiative that focuses on storytelling, peace education, and creative use of social media to strengthen counter-narratives to hateful media propaganda. He consults with the Blue Ribbon Movement’s Gender Lab on a gender sensitization program with high school boys, and has featured in shows on feminism produced by NDTV and VitaminStree.
